Transformational Breathwork

“Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts” -Thich Nhat Hanh

Conscious Connected Breathwork is a practice to release and resolve stored emotions and memories that are often not accessible through more conventional therapies. Through your breath, you can go even deeper, to subconscious places beyond the realm of your intellect. It is a safe and powerful tool to recalibrate the mind, detoxify the body and open the heart to personal transformations.

What is Conscious Connected Breathing?

Breathwork is the process of using various breathing exercises to improve physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. Conscious connected breathing is a form of breathwork that spans thousands of years and has existed across multiple cultures, resurfacing in the Western World to bridge the gap between body, mind, and spirit. ‘Breathwork’ has become a whole field of self-discovery in itself and is an umbrella term for all of the varying approaches to self-inquiry through the breath. It goes by many different names, including; Transformational Breathwork, Clarity Breathwork, Neurodynamic Breathwork, Emotional Release Breathwork, and Revelation Breathwork. It is similar to Holotropic Breathwork, yet shorter in duration and intesity.

It is a transformative and experiential process that is different for everyone. Each session is specific to the individual, meaning there are no set or predictable outcomes, and will reflect your uniqueness. Breath is both an autonomic and controllable process and is much more than a physical thing. It’s a powerful self-healing modality that is always available to you. It is a natural and effective method for tapping into the subconscious and bringing to the surface any issues that need to be acknowledged and safely released. By accessing the intelligence of our own bodies, we allow ourselves to release stuck or stored emotions and clear stagnant energy. From a grounded and centered state, you can fully process, explore and integrate past experiences and release them on a cellular and somatic level.

What Are The Benefits?

Breathwork has many diverse benefits and as its popularity increases, additional research is further highlighting its efficacy. Breathwork can soothe the nervous system, reduce stress and anxiety, boost mood, clear toxins, release trauma or repressed emotions, restore balance and presence in the body, unblock the creative process, increase somatic intelligence, bring feelings of peace and gratitude, transcend limiting beliefs and deepen your spiritual connection. Breathwork can be a tool for self-exploration, personal empowerment, and inner transformation. If you are open to the experience, it can also provide a safe and natural way to experience expanded and altered states of consciousness.

How Does It Work?

Conscious connected breathing is an active breathing process that differs from most traditional meditation and mindfulness practices. You will be supported and guided on a personal journey as you breathe through your mouth in a connected and circular pattern. The session may occasionally be uncomfortable, due to the intensity of the breath as well as potential emotional content, but it is paradoxically blissful at the same time. You are in control of the process and can stop or slow the depth of your experience/breath at any time. It is best to let go of your expectations and judgments, trusting you will have the experience you are meant to have. When we get out of our own way, we allow the breath to do its work.

Breathwork cannot be explained in simple physiological terms, as it is a complex and beautiful psychosomatic phenomenon that reflects your individual history. What we do know is that faster breathing changes the balance between carbon dioxide and oxygen in the body. As levels of carbon dioxide decrease, your body compensates by making your blood more alkaline, leading to certain changes in brain activity. The frontal cortex slows, meaning your mental processing and thinking mind deactivates in a way where you can connect with your body’s innate intuition. When we quiet our thoughts, we can access and release unprocessed energy in the body. By using full diaphragmatic breathing, the lymphatic system is also activated and begins to move toxins and stored emotions from the body. On an energetic level, vibrational patterns are elevated and changed to a higher frequency, where physical and emotional blockages are cleansed. By changing the rate, ratio, volume, and flow of the respiratory cycle, changes and shifts in awareness can also occur.

Breathwork is best understood through direct experience. Please come with an open heart and mind and a willingness to dive in and find what is ready to be felt, held, healed, and released.

Logistics:

All levels are welcome, regardless of past experience with the breath. Session time is 2 hours: 30 minutes before explaining the process, practicing the breathing technique and intention setting, 60 minutes of guided active breathing, and then 30 minutes after to regroup. Please wear loose and comfortable clothing and refrain from eating two hours prior to your session. If you use an inhaler, please bring it along. You will need an eye mask, yoga mat, water bottle, journal and blanket. Upon request, any of these items can be provided for you.

  • Breathwork can involve sensations of strong emotional or physical release and may therefore not be appropriate for persons with various health conditions. Breathwork can cause reduced carbon dioxide and other alterations in blood chemistry, that have the potential to lead to dizziness, fainting, weakness, spasms of the hands and feet, and even seizures.

Consult with your medical provider if you have, or have a history of: cardiovascular disease, angina, asthma, heart attack, high blood pressure, glaucoma, retinal detachment, osteoporosis, recent injury or surgery, any conditions for which you take regular medications, history of panic attacks, history of psychosis, severe mental illnesses, seizure disorders, family history of aneurysms, pregnancy.

Spiritual and emotional work, breathwork, and any other form of alternative healing should not be construed as a substitute for direct medical advice from your doctor or another qualified clinician, medical or psychiatric examination, diagnosis, or treatment. Anyone interested in breathwork is also responsible for seeking the specific medical or psychiatric attention they need, should they need it. This work is deeply experiential and can enhance psychotherapy, other healing modalities, and personal growth efforts.
